About Shenfa

Dr Zhu Shenfa is currently lecturer at the Centre for English Language Communication at the National University of Singapore. He graduated with a BA in English language and literature from Harbin Normal University, China, in 1986. After 8 years' teaching at his alma mater, he was offered a scholarship by the Ministry of Education, Singapore, to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in ELT at the National Institute of Education. In 1997, he was awarded an MA in English language by the National University of Singapore and later a scholarship leading to his PhD in phonetics/phonology. His research interests lie in phonetics/phonology, contrastive and translation studies of English/Chinese, teaching English/Chinese as a foreign/second language, and features of Singapore English and Mandarin. He serves on the editorial board of e-FLT, an electronic journal for foreign or second language teaching and learning, published by the Centre for Language Studies of the National University of Singapore.
